What we are aiming for
Orion Skies should be usable on a phone in the dark, with a screen reader, or with the text made bigger. We aim to meet the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. We do not claim to meet it everywhere, because it has not been independently checked.
What is built in
- Every page works at phone width without scrolling sideways, checked across the whole site, signed in and signed out.
- Buttons and links are checked for size and spacing, so they are easy to tap.
- Red light mode is the default, to keep your night eyes; the round switch at the top changes to day mode.
- Settings and readings are written as text as well as drawn, so the numbers are there without the chart.
- Pictures carry descriptions; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
What is not right yet
- We have not tested the whole site with a screen reader. Until we have, we will not claim it works well with one.
- The height charts on target pages and the hour squares on Best night this week are visual. The main figures are given in words next to them.
- Red light mode has lower contrast than day mode by design. If it is hard to read, use day mode.
Tell us if something is wrong
If anything here is hard or impossible to use, tell us and we will fix it. Say which page, what you were trying to do, and what happened. Press Report on any post, comment, profile or message, or, if you are a member, message TPN_Explorer, who runs the site. An email address will be added here when Orion Skies moves to its own web address.
